Bio-Incubator 4 and 5

Installation of HVAC, electricity, and plumbing in innovative laboratories for biotechnological research at the Arenberg Science Park in Leuven.

Commissioned by KU Leuven, Imtech played a key role in the realization of Bio-Incubator 4 and 5, two advanced laboratory buildings located on Gaston Geenslaan in Heverlee, within the Arenberg Science Park. These projects represent a significant step in supporting emerging biotechnological companies and spin-offs from KU Leuven.

Bio-Incubator 4, completed in November 2023, and Bio-Incubator 5, expected to be finished in September 2024, are designed as leading bio accelerators. These multifunctional laboratory complexes are equipped with the latest technologies and facilities to create a dynamic and efficient research environment.

High-tech Ventilation

One of the most essential components of the laboratory is temperature control and ventilation. Imtech ensured the integration of advanced systems such as 4-pipe heat pumps, air handling units, and specialized lab control valves, which provide precise temperature and airflow regulation. The installation includes robust buffer tanks of 2 x 10,000 liters for both heating and cooling, as well as advanced flow control systems to ensure the safety and functionality of the laboratories. In addition to the HVAC installations, Imtech also installed the complete electrical and plumbing systems, contributing to the seamless operation of the laboratory.

Customization per Company

One of the biggest challenges of this project was flexibly addressing the varying client requirements concerning the ventilation systems. Since the different tenant companies conduct a wide range of research, Imtech had to deliver tailored solutions to meet the specific needs of each user. Tight deadlines and extensive customization made this a complex task, but Imtech rose to the challenge and successfully integrated all the requirements.

Following the installation, Imtech Maintenance ensures ongoing upkeep, with a focus on optimizing performance and reliability.
